We toured the Kinzie Industrial Corridor, led
by artist Melinda Fries. Starting from a small lighting store, the group
traveled the empty sidewalks past site- inspired murals and along the
invisible border beyond which 'blue
cherries' abound for public safety.
A basic environment for the labor industry,
the area featured acres of rows of blue collar factories and work stations
(including
Dunkin' Donuts, woo) but appeared devoid of families or residents. Most
buildings were in decent shape, some even had shrubberies, but a number
were questionably operable. Heading back to 1958 W. Walnut St., we passed
the best sign ever, "Help Wanted | None."
